    • If Waterman Marine Consultancy has carried out a risk assessment on board your vessel(s) on behalf of your insurance company it is possible that we detect situations that we consider an higher risk for the insurer. Even if Class and Flag State surveyors have confirmed that your vessel(s) comply to their specific requirements, it is possible that we find situations that creates higher risks.

As an example, your vessel has a fully compliant fire detection and alarm system on board approved by the flag and class surveyors. We could judge that there is an area in which detection is not sufficient and therefore we request to add an additional smoke detector.

  • Contact

We market both our company name as well as your yacht directly. We have various media packages at costprice you can additionally choose from if you'd like more exposure than through our basic channels. Because of our revolutionary new way of selling yachts we do get some extra attention in the media. We've also hired a specialist company to keep a good ranking on the main search engines and last but not least we are active on the social media networks like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Youtube.

  • I am a Yacht-Broker, I have an interested client, what is the available commission?
    • Qualified yacht brokers can check how much commission the Seller is prepared to pay if they find a buyer. Just check the sales sheet of the vessel for which you have an interested client. We leave it entirely free and at the sellers discretion. This can vary from 0% to 10% commission on the purchase price paid. We advise yacht brokers to make arrangements with their clients(the potential buyers) for payment of their fees if the commission offered by the owners of yachts listed at the Watermanlive Owners club is not sufficient.

  • What are the requirements to list my yacht?
    • To make sure that we have 100% correct information about your yacht we ask ALL listed yacht owners in the Watermanlive Owners Club to undertake a PRE-SALES SURVEY on their yacht, carried out by Waterman Marine Consultancy. This survey is executed by our professional marine surveyors and cost around 1500 Euros per vessel + travel expenses. We also require that the minimum expected sales value of the vessel is not less then 500 000 Euros.

  • What is a PRE-SALES SURVEY ?
    • The obligatory pre-sales survey is an extensive check by one of our professional and qualified marine surveyors on board your yacht. We'll do a full check on all documentation on board while the yacht is in the water to make sure everything is up to date and valid, we will inspect and test all technical installations, structural aspects and condition of the hull and superstructure, electrical installations, electronic equipment, safety equipment and life saving appliances, interior areas, furnitures, AV equipment, exterior areas, deck equipment, paint, seals, doors and hatches, and so on. All this information is captured in our electronic surveying and management system Watermanlive and all deficiencies, non-compliance matters and other shortcomings or defects are highlighted and listed in the ISSUE list in Watermanlive. Once the survey is completed we will advise you on how to resolve the ISSUES found or as an alternative how and what to compensate for in your asking price.

  • What is the difference between a Pre Sales Survey and a Pre Purchase Survey?
    • A Pre-Purchase Survey is usually carried out by the potential buyer to highlight deficiencies and then to either reject the yacht or re-negotiate the asking price. It is our experience as surveyors that this results in many cases to disappointments for both seller and buyer. The seller is disappointed because he did not realize the yacht had these shortcomings or defects . The buyer is disappointed because he fell in love with a yacht that now turns out to have these deficiencies and defects. If the defects are serious enough the potential buyer may reject the vessel and as a result time, energy and money from both Seller and Buyer is wasted and both parties are left with a bad taste…
It is our strong believe that it benefits ALL parties if a Pre-Sales Survey is initiated by the Seller. The Pre-Sales Survey is the same as a Pre-Purchase Survey with the only, very important difference that the seller is able to either rectify the deficiencies or adjust the selling price before a potential buyer inspects the vessel.
We still encourage Potential Buyers to hire an independent surveyor and carry out a Pre-Purchase Survey. There is a much higher chance that the Pre-Purchase Survey will NOT find any new deficiencies or defects that could be reason for rejection of the vessel and therefore the chance of a successful transaction is higher when a Pre-Sales Survey is carried out.

  • If defects are found during the Pre-Sales Survey, are they accessible by potential buyers?
    • We encourage owners/sellers to authorize Watermanlive to make the list of deficiencies and defects found during the Pre-Sales Survey public. Transparency about the condition of the yacht will lead to faster sales results. As a seller you can decide which defects you want to publish and what you want to hide for the public but again we encourage a 100% transparency. As part of our services we will advise you how to resolve defects. It is the choice of the seller whether defects are resolved or if an adjustment is made to the asking price reflecting the repair costs for the open issues. Potential Buyers can access FULL information of the vessel, after registration of name, telephone number and email address.

  • OK, I want to try your services, how do I list my yacht with Watermanlive?
    • Listing your yacht is simple, just go to the listing page and fill in the form, we will contact you within a few hours to arrange for a date to carry out the Pre-Sales Survey, advise you on resolving issues, selling price and capture all data and information in Watermanlive. Once all is set-up and your sales sheet has been finished we'll show you how it all looks and if you like what you see we'll start publishing your yacht.

  • Can I have my yacht listed with other companies while it is published on Watermanlive?
    • Yes you can, we have no restrictions nor do we ask for exclusivity to list your yacht with us, it's your choice where you want to list your vessel.

  • If my yacht is sold through another company, do I still have to pay Watermanlive?
    • NO, in that case you do not pay commission to Watermanlive.

  • I found a client myself, do I still have to pay Watermanlive?
    • No commission is due in case you find a client yourself. We can still handle the transaction for you if you wish, you just pay our going rates for the services you need.

  • Are potential buyers directed to me, the owner of the yacht?
    • You can choose if you want to receive the details of the potential client and handle the contact yourself or if you want us to answer the questions and find out if it is a serious lead or not. In both cases the 1% commission fee in case of a sale is due.

  • Buyers Club
  • Why are you only charging 1%?
    • We believe that when you buy a yacht you  should pay only for services that add value to your purchasing process. It's our opinion that many companies are charging unnecessary amounts of money for unclear reasons.

  • Why should I buy my yacht through Watermanlive?
    • There are 4 big reasons to buy your yacht through Watermanlive:
      • You pay only 1% commission in case of a sale and not 10% like with most other companies.
      • We know the market very well and we make sure that you know what you are buying before putting your money at risk not afterwards like with most other companies.
      • In the event you buy a yacht listed with a yacht broker and commission is available, we refund all commissions received in excess of our fixed 1% fee to you.
      • We have wide experience in contractual, legal, fiscal and technical matters.

  • Any additional charges?
    • ONLY if you decide to use our extra services. For example if you decide that you want us to have  a first look at a yacht on your behalf and report back to you so you do not have to travel or if you use us to perform a Pre-Purchase Survey on a yacht which is not listed in our database. Otherwise there are no additional charges.

  • Do I need to sign any agreement with Watermanlive?
    • NO, you do not have to sign any agreement; you only have to agree to pay us a 1% commission fee on the purchase price in case a yacht is bought with our help. See our Terms & Conditions.

  • What Basic services are included for the 1% commission fee?

  • What is a First Impression Survey?
    • The First Impression Survey is a relatively short but thorough inspection by one of our surveyors on one of the yachts that matches your search criteria. This inspection is meant to glean more information from the yacht and to understand the general condition of the yacht. We concentrate on the main areas like structural strength, machinery, paintwork, electrical installations and documentation. We then report back to you and advise you on how close the yacht is to your search criteria. The reporting is done in Watermanlive and includes photos, copies of certificates and drawings if they are available. In this way do not have to travel to see each yacht yourself but you are able to concentrate on the one that we identify for you as being worth coming over and visit.

  • Who performs the Pre-Purchase Survey on a yacht I want to buy?
    • As qualified marine surveyors we are experienced in pre-purchase surveys and we offer to do this survey for you as our client. You can book a survey here.
We can do these surveys on yachts that are NOT listed in the Watermanlive Ownersclub. For yachts that are listed in the Watermanlive Ownersclub we encourage potential buyers to hire an independent surveyor to prevent a conflict of interest.

  • What is the difference between a Pre-Sales Survey and a Pre- Purchase Survey?
    • A pre Purchase Survey is usually carried out by the potential buyer to highlight deficiencies and then to either reject the yacht or re-negotiate the asking price. It is our experience as surveyors that this results in many cases to disappointments for both seller and buyer. The seller is disappointed because he did not realize the yacht had these shortcomings or defects . The buyer is disappointed because he fell in love with a yacht that now turns out to have these deficiencies and defects. If the defects are serious enough the potential buyer may reject the vessel and as a result time, energy and money from both Seller and Buyer is wasted and both parties are left with a bad taste… It is our strong believe that it benefits ALL parties if a Pre-Sales Survey is initiated by the Seller. The pre-Sales Survey  is the almost the same as a Pre-Purchase Survey with the only, very important difference that the Seller is able to either rectify the deficiencies or adjust the selling price before a potential buyer inspects the vessel. We oblige yacht owners who list their yachts with Watermanlive to carry out a Pre Sales Survey.

We still encourage Potential Buyers to hire an independent surveyor and carry out a Pre-Purchase Survey for all yachts listed in our own database.  There is a much higher chance that the Pre-Purchase Survey will NOT find any new deficiencies or defects that could be reason for rejection of the vessel and therefore the chance of a successful transaction is higher when a Pre-Sales Survey is carried out.

  • If defects found during the Pre-Sales Survey, are they accessible by potential buyers?
    • We encourage owners/sellers to authorize Watermanlive to make the list of deficiencies and defects found during the Pre-Sales Survey public. Transparency about the condition of the yacht will lead to faster sales results. A seller can decide which defects he want to publish and what he wants to hide for the public but again we encourage a 100% transparency. It is the choice of the seller whether defects are resolved or if an  adjustment is made to the asking price reflecting the repair costs for the open issues. Potential Buyers can access FULL information of the vessel, after registration of name, telephone number and email address.

  • OK, I want to try your services, how do I proceed?
    • We invite you to fill in our Buyers Club entry form here

  • Brokers Club
  • Why are you only charging 1%?
    • We believe in straight forward business and value for money. We skip unnecessary overhead, travel costs and marketing expenses and we work extremely efficient. Our online surveying and management tools make it possible to work for such a low fee. We offer extra services to our clients for which they have to pay extra.

  • How much commission is available for yacht brokers?
    • Every seller who list his yacht with Watermanlive is asked to make public the amount of commission he is prepared to pay to qualified yacht brokers who present a buyer and close a deal. This can be anything from 0% to 10% or in some cases even more. This commission is in addition to our 1% fee and is announced on the yacht’s Sales Page.

  • Who is paying the commission and when is it paid?
    • the commission is paid at the closing date (usually from the deposit) or directly by the seller.

  • Is Watermanlive of any of its related companies or employees a MYBA member?
    • No, we are not members of MYBA

  • Does Watermanlive use MYBA memorandum of agreements for its transactions?
    • We have our own standard simplified sales contract but we may also use the MYBA version if parties agree to delete clauses that conflict with our policy.

  • Does Watermanlive use MYBA memorandum of agreements for its transactions?
    • We have our own standard simplified sales contract but we may also use the MYBA version if parties agree to delete clauses that conflict with our policy.

  • Can Watermanlive act as stakeholder and keep deposits in Escrow?
    • Yes we provide this service through the BNP Paribas, the costs are  1% over the amount in escrow plus bank costs, the maximum  number of days the deposit is held in Escrow is 60 days.

  • What are the requirements to list my yacht?
    • To make sure that we have 100% correct information about your yacht we oblige ALL yachts that are listed  in the Watermanlive Owners club to have a PRE-SALES SURVEY carried out by Waterman Marine Consultancy. This survey is executed by our professional marine surveyors and cost around 1500 Euros per vessel + travel expenses. We also require that the minimum expected sales value of the vessel is not les then 500 000 Euros

  • What is a PRE-SALES SURVEY?
    • The obligatory pre-sales survey is an extensive check by one of our professional and qualified marine surveyors on board your yacht. We will do a full check on all documentation on board while the yacht is in the water to make sure all is up to date and valid, we will inspect and test all technical installations, structural aspects and condition of hull and superstructure, electrical installations, electronic equipment, safety equipment and life saving appliances, interior areas, furniture’s, AV equipment, exterior areas, deck equipment, paint, seals, doors and hatches, and so on. All this information is captured in our electronic surveying and management system Watermanlive and all ‘deficiencies’ , non-compliance matters and other shortcomings or defects are highlighted and listed in the ISSUE list in Watermanlive. Once the survey is completed we will advise you on how to resolve the ISSUES found or as an alternative how and what to compensate for in your asking price.

  • Do I need to sign any agreement with Watermanlive if I Sub-List a yacht?
    • NO, you do not have to sign any agreement; you only have to agree to pay us a 1% commission fee on the purchase price in case a yacht is sold with our help. See our Terms & Conditions (link)

  • Do we have to pay any fees or commission if the yacht is not sold through Watermanlive
    • NO, you do not pay any fee or commission in that case providing that the fee for the obligatory Pre Sales Survey has been paid in full.

  • Who is doing the Pre Purchase Survey?
    • As qualified marine surveyors we are experienced in pre-purchase surveys and we offer to do this survey for our clients. We can do these surveys only on yachts that are NOT listed in the Watermanlive Ownersclub. You can book a survey here. For yachts that are listed in the Watermanlive Ownersclub we encourage potential buyers to contract an independent surveyor to prevent a conflict of interest.

  • What is the difference between a Pre Sales Survey and a Pre Purchase Survey?
The pre-Sales Survey  is almost the same as a Pre-Purchase Survey with the only, very important difference that the Seller is able to either rectify the deficiencies or adjust the selling price before a potential buyer inspects the vessel. • OK, I want to try your services, how do I Sub-List my yacht with Watermanlive?
    • Listing your yacht is simple, just go to the listing page(LINK) and fill in the form, we will contact you within a few hours to arrange for a date to carry out the Pre-Sales Survey, advise you resolving issues and on selling price and capture all data and information in Watermanlive. Book your Pre - Port State Control Survey Now! Changes to the Paris MOU targeting mechanism for Port State Control Inspections and the effects these changes are having on Commercial Yachts
Since 01 January 2011, the members of the Paris MOU have adopted “The Hybrid European Targeting and Inspection System”, or “THETIS”, when selecting vessels to be inspected. Commercial yachts have traditionally enjoyed a “low profile” with Port State Control authorities around the world and have generally been considered a low priority for inspection. However, under THETIS, any vessel which does not have an inspection history in the Paris MOU region is automatically assigned as “Priority 1: (Unknown Ship)” requiring a “More Detailed Inspection” at the earliest opportunity. The assignment of “Priority 1: (Unknown Ship)” will be assigned to every vessel entering the Paris MOU region without an inspection history regardless of the Ship Type, Flag, Classification Society or Management Company. Commercial Yachts who have not previously been inspected in the Paris MOU region should expect a full Port State Control inspection in the near future. Our experience to date is that these inspections are being carried out in a thorough and professional manner. Defects are being raised and, in a number of cases, Commercial Yachts have been subject to formal detention. It is important that the master’s of commercial yachts are aware of the consequences associated with port state control detention. Multiple yacht detentions will lead to Management Companies being considered as “high risk” and their managed yacht will attract more inspections. A yacht with recent detentions will also be considered as “high risk” and will attract additional inspections. Multiple detentions will result in a yacht being banned from entering the ports of all members of the Paris MOU. A detention places severe restrictions on a yachts operations. Inspections and re-inspections do not take account of the yacht’s charter’s or owner preferred schedule or wishes. This could result in charters being lost or severely disrupted. If the condition of the yacht is considered to be unsafe or in breach of local legislation the yacht may attract large fines and the master may be held criminally responsible. Flag States are obliged to investigate the underlying causes which have lead to a detention. If this investigation concludes that the condition of the yacht is due to negligence or willful disregard of safety regulations by anyone onboard, appropriate actions will be taken at both the individual and company level.
