- What is a First Impression Survey?
- Who performs the Pre-Purchase Survey on a yacht I want to buy?
- What is the difference between a Pre-Sales Survey and a Pre- Purchase Survey?
-
A pre Purchase Survey is usually carried out by the potential buyer to highlight deficiencies and then to either reject the yacht or re-negotiate the asking price. It is our experience as surveyors that this results in many cases to disappointments for both seller and buyer. The seller is disappointed because he did not realize the yacht had these shortcomings or defects . The buyer is disappointed because he fell in love with a yacht that now turns out to have these deficiencies and defects. If the defects are serious enough the potential buyer may reject the vessel and as a result time, energy and money from both Seller and Buyer is wasted and both parties are left with a bad taste… It is our strong believe that it benefits ALL parties if a Pre-Sales Survey is initiated by the Seller. The pre-Sales Survey is the almost the same as a Pre-Purchase Survey with the only, very important difference that the Seller is able to either rectify the deficiencies or adjust the selling price before a potential buyer inspects the vessel. We oblige yacht owners who list their yachts with Watermanlive to carry out a Pre Sales Survey. We still encourage Potential Buyers to hire an independent surveyor and carry out a Pre-Purchase Survey for all yachts listed in our own database. There is a much higher chance that the Pre-Purchase Survey will NOT find any new deficiencies or defects that could be reason for rejection of the vessel and therefore the chance of a successful transaction is higher when a Pre-Sales Survey is carried out.
